On Tuesday they travel to Burton from England’s second tier in the League Cup, a competition they have won a record eight times but now enter at an early stage due to their failure to qualify for Europe this season.

He said: “It’s not about who can play when”.

“We are professionals so it’s the next opportunity for us to get a result, even when it’s not for the table. I don’t know in this moment 100% what will happen, but it’s not that we have a preferred position where we are looking for players”.

Liverpool striker Divock Origi “has no rhythm at the moment”, according to manager Jurgen Klopp.

“Daniel is still a very good player, there is no doubt about it”. “But in this moment it’s not that we have a main thing to do, that our feeling is in this position we have nobody or we have the feeling we can not work with the player in the position or something like this”.

“He needs to find that rhythm again”.

“When the tempo of the Premier League bites you, even two games in, and you can’t blitz teams like City away last season, what then?”

“I don’t compare him with the younger Daniel Sturridge, if you like”. He is a really good player with all you need when he is fit. Trent Alexander-Arnold was absent, though, and could start at right-back on Tuesday night.
