Gonzalez had a solo shot in the fifth, when the Dodgers connected four times overall.

Gonzalez had a chance for a fourth home run in the eighth inning, but settled on an RBI ground out. We gave up seven home runs.

Run-scoring singles by Votto, Scott Schebler, and Tucker Barnhart cut the Reds’ deficit to 6-4 in the third. He has hit safely in his last five games for Oklahoma City and has combined to hit.331 with seven homers and 38 RBI in 82 minor league games this year with Oklahoma City, Double-A Tulsa and Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. Chase Utley singled on Bailey’s first pitch of the game, and Corey Seager singled on the second pitch.

Coming back from Tommy John surgery usually comes with a bit of unevenness in performance, and Homer Bailey slid into one of those valleys Monday. The host’s unsuccessful string of pitchers did the most to help out first baseman Adrian Gonzalez’s numbers. It was the first career homer for both Dodgers rookies. Andrew Toles started in right field. Toles is the 11th different Dodger to drive in four runs in a game this season. Each hit drove in a run.

BALTIMORE – Mark Trumbo hit a two-run homer, Dylan Bundy pitched six innings, and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Washington Nationals 4-3 Monday night.

– Seager’s two-run shot gave him 22 homers, trying Glenn Wright’s club record for a shortstop from 1930.

Houston has won four games in a row after a four-game losing streak.

On the season, Seager is up to.321/.375/.540, on pace for 203 hits, 44 doubles and 29 home runs. He also lost an Adam Duvall fly ball in clouds in the first inning, and Duvall ended up with a triple.

But even giving Kazmir the benefit of the doubt, his command was awful on Monday, going to three balls on nine of his 17 batters faced, walking three with only one strikeout.

Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Homer Bailey sits in the dugout after being relieved in the third inning of a baseball game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, in Cincinnati.

Neither starting pitcher made it past the third inning. The club is somehow 10-9 this month.

The Dodgers hit seven homers for the first time since an 11-10 win over San Diego on September 18, 2006.

The seven home runs were one shy of the Dodgers’ franchise best, set on May 23, 2002 in Milwaukee, the game that saw Shawn Green hit four homers himself.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts played left field for the Padres in that game 10 years ago when Los Angeles also hit seven. He’s the third Dodger to hit three in a game this season, joining Yasmani Grandal and Seager.

Old friend Jumbo Diaz, making his 128th career relief appearance for the Reds, made his first major league plate appearance in the fifth inning.

Predictably, a position player – outfielder Tyler Holt – finished the game on the mound, the first for the Reds since Skip Schumaker on August 21, 2014, against Atlanta. Holt was the only one of six Reds pitchers on Monday not to allow any runs.
