Roberto Aguayo seeks out mental coach after missed kicks in preseason

Maybe there’s some nerves, I don’t know. “Roberto in both the first preseason games – he’s been pretty consistent in practice – but in both the preseason games, he’s missed kicks that he’s expected to make”.

Aguayo was a player Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht revealed was graded as a first-round talent by the club (more on that here). Aguayo was a three-time All-American at Florida State and should be able to turns things around despite getting off to a sluggish start. He went 3-for-3 on extra points and connected on two other field goals in two games. “You just have to fix it and keep moving on”, Aguayo said.

“I had more misses (Saturday) than him”, Winston said.

With the increased importance on kickers in recent years, Aguayo can’t afford to miss short field goals; he especially can’t afford to miss extra points in the regular season.

Shut up. Was Sebastian Janikowski worth taking in the first round in 2000? I miss at practice sometimes. In an effort to get his mind right, Aguayo is consulting with three people not now employed by the Buccaneers. “But I’m still glad he’s our kicker”. He could settle down and be a Pro Bowl kicker for the next 10 years, the Buccaneers better hope so. “The bottom line is he’s expected to make those kicks”. I put it on me to get better and be great, ” he said. “I don’t think these really count”.

Via JoeBucsFan.com, Roy Cummings told 620 WDAE that Aguayo has contacted former National Football League kicker Ryan Longwell, former Buccaneers special-teams coordinator Bill Miller, and a “mental coach”.

“One thing these older guys keep telling me is: ‘Hey, it’s a long season, make sure you keep your body right, lifting weights and everything, “‘ Aguayo said, adding the only goal he’s set for himself as a rookie is doing whatever he can to help the team end a stretch of eight consecutive seasons without a playoff berth. “I just want to flawless my craft, keep on doing what I’m doing, pay attention to the details and. and it’ll all tally up in the end”.
