Wenger: It is difficult to find quality players

The new signing Rob Holding, 20, partnered 21-year-old Calum Chambers in the heart of Arsenal’s defence at the Emirates Stadium, a decision that was heavily criticised after they conceded three goals in just 14 minutes.

“We are ready to spend the money but we have to find players who will improve our team”, said Wenger.

Wenger has urged Arsenal fans to be patient with their club’s relative lack of transfer market activity.

“I don’t want to talk about the decisions”, said City boss Claudio Ranieri. Hopefully we can take advantage because they are not used to it.

“What I fight against is to think that the only way in football to deal, is to buy”. I would say even all the players who left, 99.5 percent of players have asked to come back even when they left. “There is a whole team working on strengthening the team and I am not the only one”. That will further frustrate fans who are unhappy that manager Arsene Wenger has failed to substantially strengthen his squad this offseason.

“If it is a guy of 32 and we think he has the quality then we will do it”, Wenger added.

Arsene Wenger says he is prepared to enter the transfer market before the window closes on 31 August.

“We are not scared to spend the money but buying players is a quality”.

“It’s important to spend money the right way – it’s not my money”.

“We spoke together last season and in pre-season and he told me he wanted to stay. The fact is I gave him holiday at the start and Gabriel, Mertesacker, we lost the two”. There are a lot of fans that have wanted him to leave for years, and another transfer-light summer hasn’t helped that.

Aaron Ramsey, a semi-finalist with Wales at Euro 2016, did play against Liverpool, only to succumb to a hamstring injury that is expected to keep him out until after the forthcoming global break.

“I will have to take a gamble maybe, but I will still have 48 hours to decide that”, he said.

Following opening-day defeats, champions Leicester City and Arsenal, last season’s Premier League top two, will be desperate to get their campaigns in gear at the King Power Stadium tomorrow.
