The Brazilian men’s team is the one with most Olympic final appearances (six), but lost in the last two Games – against the United States at Beijing 2008, and Russian Federation at London 2012. Brazil broke the tie at 22-all with Wallace’ s spike, m then Wallace blocked Zaytsev and Mauricio de Souza served a victor for the 28-26 in favour of Brazil. Ryan Lochte has stolen the media attention from the rest of the Olympians.

“This team fought the entire time”, USA veteran David Lee said. They stopped at a gas station to use the restroom, where one of the athletes committed an act of vandalism. Lochte’s attorney had earlier maintained that one took place and insisted the swimmer had nothing to gain by making the story up. A translator assisted and told them they needed to pay money to leave, Bentz says.

There was major news created by current competing athletes.

“This team fought the entire time”, Lee said. However, Bolt initially displayed disappointment when he saw the clock read 19.78 seconds, more than a half-second slower than his own world record of 19.19. “In the best spot for this sport”, Bruno said after the reigning world champions beat Italy in straight sets in the beach volleyball gold medal match on Thursday night.

The Brazilians reached their fourth straight Olympic title match and finally came out champions once more.

Kevin Mayer of France was 59 points behind to take silver. Dutch duo Robert Meeuwsen and Alexander Brouwer recovered from semifinal heartbreak to earn the bronze.

Kyle Snyder won gold, becoming the youngest Olympic wrestling champion in US history.

Pau Gasol scored 31 points in what might have been his final Olympic game and Spain added a bronze to its collection with an 89-88 win over Australia, again denied its first medal. “When the difference between the teams is such a small margin, it can go either way for any team”, said top US scorer and outside striker Matt Anderson.

Italy was seeking its first gold medal in the sport. So when both teams met in the gold final, the Italians were supposed to be the favorites. The Americans dropped the baton during the morning preliminaries and appeared to be out of contention before filing a protest. Fabiana and the women fell to China in a five-set quarterfinal match.

In women’s golf, Inbee Park of South Korea has a two-shot lead going into the final round.
