Dearman has a pending charge from a residential burglary reported in Greene County in December 2015, McLeod said.
A MS sheriff says the man accused of slaughtering two women and three men at a home in south Alabama walked into his agency’s office and said he had killed at least one person. Their bodies were found Saturday.
Though connections between Dearman and the five people killed were not immediately clear, investigators have determined that his ex-girlfriend, Laneta Lester, had gone to the home on August 19 to get away from an abusive relationship with Dearman, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. They were found alive.
Alabama authorities said five people, including a pregnant woman, were killed, according to WKRG, a sister station to WJTV. Both were later found alive.
Derrick Dearman, 27, is held to await extradition to Mobile County, Alabama, where he faces six counts of murder and possibly other charges.
The victims were identified as Robert Lee Brown, 26; Joseph Adam Turner, 26; Shannon Melissa Randall, 35; Justin Kaleb Reed, 23; and Chelsea Marie Reed, 22, who was five months pregnant when she was killed. The additional count is because 22-year-old Chelsea Marie Reed, was 5 months pregnant, Myles said.
It could take investigators days to sort out the grisly murder scene in Citronelle, a small town 30 miles northwest of Mobile.
“It’s unprecedented here”, Burch told The Associated Press.
Crime scene tape marks the home on Jim Platt Road near Citronelle, Ala., Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, where authorities said five people were killed on Saturday. “It’s just such an very bad, terrible tragedy”.
“We have a terrible scene here”, Rich told reporters. He said that investigators had been processing the crime scene, meanwhile, and that he expected autopsies on the victims to be conducted on Monday as well.
The Greene County man accused of killing five people in Alabama, has a criminal history, according to authorities.
Crystal said she didn’t know the victims, but she knows Dearman’s behavior.
Greene County, just across the Alabama/Mississippi state line, is about 20 miles west of Citronelle.
Derrick Dearman tells reporters he was on methamphetamine when he went to a house where the five were discovered dead Saturday.
Citronelle police contacted the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office for help Sunday afternoon.
A call was placed to the police from the home at 1 a.m. Saturday where officials were told that Dearman was on the property.
According to AL.com, Lester “fled to a relative’s house Friday afternoon to escape Dearman, who she said was abusive”.
Authorities say following the murders, Dearman forced Lester and the infant of Turner and Randall into a vehicle and drove them to MS to his father’s home where he later released them. The three drove to the MS home of Dearman’s father.
Authorities previously said Dearman admitted to killing at least one person at the house.
“I woke up to him holding a knife to my throat in bed with my baby in the crib”, said Dearman, who said the two divorced in 2010. “Please consider helping us in our grave time of need”.
A 4-month old boy also survived the attack, and was found in the home after the killings.
In that case, Westley Devon Harris was given a death sentence after being convicted of slaughtering his girlfriend’s relatives.

“She was trying to be fearless and leave and it just set him off”, said Crystal.
