During his routine pregame meeting with the media on Friday, John Farrell made the stunning announcement that he has been diagnosed with Stage 1 lymphoma.

Farrell underwent hernia surgery earlier this week, and the cancer was discovered during that procedure.
Farrell, who managed the Red Sox to a world championship in 2013, will be replaced by bench coach Torey Lovullo for the last two months of the 2015 season.
On Tuesday, Minnesota Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders said he is being treated for Hodgkin lymphoma, and his doctors consider it “very treatable and curable”. Farrell will begin treatment next week at Mass General.
Farrell is in his third season as Red Sox manager.
Farrell: “There’s going to be a good outcome to this”.
