Paxton Lynch seeing better Broncos starting shot as Mark Sanchez slips

It’s not that Lynch has been magnificent over two preseason games; it’s just that if he is indeed the future – which he certainly is – and if he is on a relatively even keel with Sanchez and Siemian – which he has been so far – then, what the heck?

“I’m going to play the guy that I think is best for our team”, said head coach Gary Kubiak, reminding everyone that Lynch is still very much in the running to start. It’s down to the nitty-gritty here.

Now, Sanchez, Lynch, and last year’s third-stringer, Trevor Siemian, are in a three-way race for the starter’s job, and the results have been less than encouraging.

In the past, Broncos starters have played into the third quarter of the third preseason game. Broncos’ general manager John Elway flirted with San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick for six weeks but when a trade never materialized, he traded up five spots in the first round to select Lynch, a 6-foot-7 prospect from the University of Memphis.

With the National Football League regular season rapidly approaching, Kubiak is running out of days to make the unenviable decision. It seems Denver fans are ready to see Lynch have a try with the starters. That throw, as it turned out, was Siemian’s only mistake, as he finished 10-of-14 for 75 yards and was 10-of-11 passing at one point.

The pre-season match against the Rams will be the Broncos last as they shift their preparations on high gear as they will face a familiar foe, the Carolina Panthers on September 8. His body of work was enough for Kubiak to give Siemian the start.

“I was telling somebody the other day, I kind of got confused about how long Trevor has been here”, Broncos tight end Virgil Green admitted with a laugh on Monday.

“Obviously, he has one play that he’d like to have back or it would have been as good as it could be”, Kubiak added of Siemian’s performance. “I’m going to give him a chance to do that again”.

After the game, Siemian was composed and said of the interception: “I just can’t turn the ball over, I made a bad decision”. “I have to be able to bounce back”.

“He’s always been in the mix”, Kubiak said of Lynch, via comments distributed by the team. However, Sanchez fumbled again at the 49ers 15 three plays later.

The Broncos are giving Siemina a legitimate chance to win the starting job.

“No, I expected it, ” he said.

“I know I can play this game”.

The Denver Broncos could be playing with fire in regards to their starting QB situation. “Poor, poor quarterback play”.

With there performances being evaluated by the Broncos staff and head coach Gary Kubiak, the victor of the race would eventually come, probably even nearer than expected.

All along, I’ve had the feeling that Kubiak felt a bit better with Sanchez in the game than Siemian.
