Shortstop Jose Reyes – one of the liveliest and most popular players among his teammates in Toronto – was sent to the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday along with reliever Miguel Castro and minor-league pitchers Jeff Hoffman and Jesus Tinoco. Reyes would be a significant offensive upgrade over Drew, who’s the better fielder.
At least a couple teams are said to have been “poking around” regarding Reyes, who was acquired from the Blue Jays for franchise shortstop Troy Tulowitzki in a pre-deadline blockbuster, and word is there’s been at least a little contact with the Yankees, though it isn’t known whether the Yankees have any real interest.
The Rockies were expected to try and move Reyes quickly after acquiring him, but nothing happened before the trade deadline. It has also been reported that the Rockies aren’t actively shopping him, but they may pull the trigger on a deal if they receive a good offer.
Through the 2017 Major League Baseball season, Jose Reyes will make $22 million a year.

On his trip to New York this week, Reyes spoke of his need to play for a contender, saying, “At this point, I just want to win”.

With Howie Kendrick likely sidelined until mid-September with a hamstring strain, the Dodgers could trade for Reyes to fill their void at second base. “No matter what people say, or whatever people think”, Reyes said.
