Lallana hails Liverpool belief after seven-goal thriller

Jurgen Klopp says he will not dip back into the transfer market before he assesses his Liverpool squad on the training field.

Coutinho scored a sumptuous free-kick and a perfectly-timed volley off his shin as the Reds came from a goal down to win 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller at the Emirates Stadium. Philippe Coutinho and the new signing, Sadio Mane, were outstanding. He won’t be entirely happy with the performance – there’ll definitely be things we need to work on.

Liverpool held out for only a second victory in their last 16 trips to the Gunners, but Henderson insists he and his teammates must maintain their control of the game throughout to make sure of more comfortable wins. “We made our mistakes together and we scored wonderful goals”, he said.

Arsene Wenger admits his Arsenal side aren’t ready for the new season – and he doesn’t know when they WILL be.

The Reds needed to come from behind after Theo Walcott opened the scoring midway through the first half.

Liverpool’s complacency nearly proved critical as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored immediately from kick-off and, 11 minutes later, Calum Chambers made it 4-3 with 15 minutes left to set up a nervy finish.

“A great bit of magic from Phil gave us that belief and confidence going into half-time”, he said. “At the moment he hasn’t got that, he’s being asked to learn on the job and we’re seeing some of the fallout from that”.

With no one left to play in defense; Wenger was forced to pair Calum Chambers and Rob Holding in the heart of the defense which was vulnerable to Liverpool’s incessant attack. But it’s always hard coming to Arsenal.

“It showed we can always score goals, but we can defend much better and that’s what we have to do, of course”.

“Or do they play in this kind of game and get injured, like (Aaron) Ramsey today?” “But we’ve got to be a little bit more disciplined at times, especially myself if I’m playing that role in the team”.

“But when the season starts, we can’t compete in the market. In the end, I think over 90 mins [the win] is deserved”.
