Wenger adamant he’s ready to spend as Leicester loom

The Frenchman left the field from a 0-0 draw at Leicester to a chorus of calls from Gunners supporters to spend money on new players.

With centre-back pairing Gabriel and Per Mertesacker injured Wenger opted not to recall fellow defender Laurent Koscielny, as well as Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil, for Sunday’s Premier League opener against Liverpool following their Euro 2016 exertions.

“He will have to find the right balance because if he thinks he will win games by himself that will be a massive mistake for him, if he tries to do something that he can’t do that will be a massive mistake as well”.

He added: “I do not understand why people say I am reluctant”.

Wenger has been heavily criticised for his lack of signings this summer with just Granit Xhaka, Takuma Asano and Rob Holding arriving so far, but speaking after the goalless draw with Leicester the Gunners boss revealed another new man was on his way.

The acquisition of Holding, a two million pounds purchase from third-tier Bolton Wanderers, comes in stark contrast to Manchester City’s 47.5 million pounds signing of Everton’s John Stones.

“Spending the money itself is not a quality”.

“For me, it was like the French national team in 1998, when we had physical players with flair, with pace, it was a similar team”. “After a bad season like last year’s, it’s not easy to start in a good way and win games”.

“In fairness he had a big back problem [Friday] when he came out of the training”, Wenger told Arsenal’s official website. With Manchester United and Manchester City racing out of the blocks, Arsenal’s title hopes could evaporate quicker than an ice cream cone on a sunny summer day.

“You are absolutely convinced that I do not want to spend the money, but I reassure you we are ready to spend the money”, he added.

“You can pay huge amounts of money for average players, there are plenty of those, but to find the ones who will strengthen your squad is more hard”. We don’t speak about the performances of the players anymore. “You do not sign players because you think it’s very important or not”.

He said: “I will spend £300m if I find the right player, and we have £300m”. He’s 20 years old, he’s English and it’s a great reason to be happy.
