Pella Teacher Receives Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching
Marc Pederson, a science teacher at Paulding County High and Cindy Rose, a math teacher at Couch Middle School are the two Georgia representatives for grades 6th through 12th.

Each nomination year of the award alternates between teachers in the kindergarten through sixth grade level, and those teaching seventh through 12th grades.
The Obama administration on Monday announced the winners of the annual Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
I am extremely honored to receive the Presidential Award as recognition of the commitment of mathematics teachers in providing rigorous and relevant curriculum that guarantees equity and access for all students.
Lauree Gott of Veazie Community School is the other ME educator to receive the award this year.
They are also invited to Washington for a September 8 awards ceremony, educational and celebratory events and visits with members of the administration.
Teachers in the program will choose aspects of teaching mathematics and science to study with UWM “content experts” and design and implement classroom activities around them.
Cavin earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, a master’s degree in special education from the University of Georgia and an Ed.S.in teacher leadership from Piedmont College in Demorest.
The list of educators was selected by a panel of distinguished scientists, mathematicians and educators after the initial selection process at the state level.

The Presidential Award is given annually to more than 200 outstanding K-12 science and mathematics teachers from across the country.
