Rio Olympics 2016: Phelps wins last relay gold as USA dominate
What’s insane is Phelps’ swimming career that started as a 15-year-old at the 2000 Summer Games. Phelps, the most decorated Olympic swimmer in history, finished the games with 6 medals, 5 gold and 1 silver.

His teammates were initially and understandably incredulous, but not because the announcement was unexpected – they were in fact the opposite.
In the swim competitions for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, everyone only cared about how Michael Phelps is doing, and I mean, the entire world.
Michael Phelps has won so many more medals than any other Olympian that it makes for a pretty tiresome discussion when he’s compared to individual athletes.
Phelps, who turned 31 in June, broke more records in Rio.
United States of America won gold medal in 4×100 meters relay, where Phelps lead the team.
Manuel previously won the 100m freestyle gold medal in a tie with Canada’s Penny Oleksiak.
Phelps won his 23rd gold while helping Team USA clinch the 4×100 meter medley relay Saturday night.
In an interview recently, Lochte said, “I guarantee he will be there”, referring to the 2020 games in Tokyo.
You have to go back 52 years for the last Olympic race to end in a three-way dead heat for medals.
“It’s frustrating, but I’m grateful to everyone that supported us to the end”, said breaststroker Yasuhiro Koseki, who swam the second leg.
The Americans completed a haul of 33 medals in the pool including 16 golds, with Australia and Hungary trailing on three golds each.
The Americans, who failed to medal at last year’s world championships, had looked in peril when two-time doping violator Yulia Efimova gave Russian Federation the lead on the breaststroke.
The final two individual golds of the games went to Pernille Blume of Denmark in the 50 free, her country’s first swimming victory since 1948, and Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri in the grueling 1,500 free.
Just for your information, Michael Phelps has been an idol for Joseph Schooling, who met him when he was 13-year old in 2008 at Beijing Olympics training camp. The winning margin of 0.75 seconds was the largest since American Mark Spitz won gold at the 1972 Munich Games and the time was faster than Phelps’ winning time four years ago in London. “It’s a little nerve-wracking but at the same time I know that regardless of the outcome United States of America will be behind me and we’ll be behind each other”.
NBC Olympics coverage has topped 2 billion total streaming minutes via NBCOlympics.com & NBC Sports app.
“That’s something I’ve been going for for a long time”, said Murphy.

“It’s incredible. Really. I have been dreaming of this moment since I was a child and it’s fantastic”, said the 21-year-old Paltinieri.
