There’s no harm in making Cassel earn the job in the preseason because the veteran has been around long enough to understand his role and he’s not going to be a shrinking violet while the head coach tries the unlock the talents of raw players with better skill sets.
“You just got to go out and run the offense and hopefully you do well and you move the ball down the field”, Cassel said Monday when discussing the multi-pronged competition. “So to hear him explain why he does and why he calls a situation and the reason the technique needs to be this way, he definitely goes into detail about why we are running this defense at a certain time in the game”. The one thing I know about him is if he does make it, it’s because of his work ethic, and if he doesn’t make it, it won’t be because of his want-to and his work ethic.
“No. 1 you don’t want to punch a guy without a helmet on, and the other thing is you don’t want to punch a guy with a helmet on because you’ll break your hand”, said Ryan. Sure, they may have lost some personnel, but Ryan brings in the know-how to succeed with much less than the talented defensive roster that Buffalo boasts right now.

“I know it’s not the regular season but these games are important, ” he said. The Bills also added receiver Percy Harvin, fullback Jerome Felton and guard Richie Incognito, and signed tight end Charles Clay to an offer sheet AFC East rival Miami declined to match. Yet, when we win, and I know were going to win, its on everybody, man, he said. I don’t want our crowd peaking too early.
“I feel like I’ve been here for years”, Ryan said. “And the great thing about this organization, everybody’s with me, from players, coaches, management, ownership”.
-DT Kyle Williams suffered a bruised quad Monday and will probably be held out of practice the rest of the week.
-RB LeSean McCoy has been slowed a few days by a sore toe, but he has been working through it and looks impressive in drills.

-RB Fred Jackson went down with a hamstring injury late last week and is expected to be out two weeks. Last season, the seventh-round pick started all 16 games at the position, while Kouandjio, the Bills’ second-round pick, dressed for just one game.
