The announcement comes during a season of record storms throughout the United States – such as those devastating Louisiana and Maryland – causing catastrophic damages and loss of life.

Ariana Galindo, a Spanish teacher from Baton Rouge, is one of the many residents who didn’t live in a designated flood zone that required flood insurance coverage, so she never bought it. Galindo’s home was hit with 2 feet of water, and she and her husband were staying temporarily at her aunt’s house.

“It might have been prevented had the army core engineers come up with the diversion canal to take flood water away from the area”.

At least 40 state highways remained closed. It’s not clear how many are uninhabitable.

“We haven’t got anything from them (the government) yet”.

‘And I think the failures of that response have been well documented, ‘ Earnest added. They evacuated their home by boat.

“It’s muddy, and it stinks. You can’t smell anywhere, in the house, it just smells horribly for so long”, he said, “it’s gonna be nine months to a year to be back to normal”. “I need some help to fix my house”.

Earnest denied that President Barack Obama’s decision to visit flood victims in Louisiana was prompted by Donald Trump’s visit on Friday.

“A disaster this big begs for the personal presence of the President at ground zero”, The Advocate said last Thursday.

Republicans usually win the state of Louisiana handily in presidential elections. “The President’s presence is already late to the crisis, but it’s better latter than never”.

The President is expected to get a firsthand look at the damage and will hear from local officials about the response and how the federal government can assist. Earnest said the federal response to flooding in Louisiana has been “much more effective and much more impactful” than the initial FEMA response to Hurricane Katrina.

Volunteers from the town of about 1,500 residents worked around the clock bring in equipment and begin repairs. “You can’t kill us”. Instead of continuing to rely on post-disaster spending, the country has to be forward thinking and help reduce risk to people, property and taxpayers.

‘I would actually refer you to local officials in Louisiana who have said very positive things about the federal response, including Republicans, including the highest ranking Republican in Louisiana, who has built his political career, as far as I can tell, on colorfully criticizing the administration, ‘ Earnest said.

“We lost everything in the house”, Burnell Williams said.

“I think. because it helped shine a spotlight on Louisiana and the dire situation that we have here that it was helpful”, Edwards told CNN’s Dana Bash.

The most infamous reaction came from singer Kayne West, who declared at a benefit concert for Katrina victims that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” in a rambling dialogue that he later apologized for. “This is the second time for us”.
