Dallas Cowboys: Preseason Highlights

But the most impressive part of Prescott’s performance was what he did when he was facing second-and-34 after the Cowboys were called for three penalties in a four-play span in the second quarter.

Goff’s lackluster showing will certainly cause a few clowns to label him a bust already, but the Rams will be patient with him as he develops slowly into the quarterback they hope he can be.

There were 89,140 tickets distributed, the most for a preseason game in the United States, according to the NFL. “But I feel like the first groups most definitely have to play better”. Some flashed. Some were plain good.

Dak Prescott had one good game.

Goff, it should be noted, played with the second-string offensive line and rookie skill players, while Keenum had the starters and completed 6 of 7 attempts (with one drop) for 58 yards. It literally would’ve been impossible for him to look better throwing the ball. Teams don’t game plan for this one and run vanilla offenses and defenses.

How good was Dak? “And the Cowboys’ fast-tracked, aggressive approach in developing Prescott showed, too”, Bell reported. “We’ll tuck him away and give him an opportunity to compete next year”.

On the wide receiver front there was nice work by Dez Bryant and Terrence Williams.

Oh, and by the way did ya see Lucky Whitehead take the kick back 101 yards for a score to open the game.Check out the rookie highlights of a unsafe, risky kick returning weapon. Alfred Morris and Darius Jackson were generally effective, though Jackson got stuffed on a 3rd and 1 behind the second string line.

The Rams returned to L.A. for this season.

Even if preseason results are useless, these exhibition games are useful for evaluating individual players.

On the defensive side of the ball it was very much a mixed bag. David Irving and Ryan Russell started at the two end spots for Dallas as the team tries to try to find replacement for DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory who will be suspended to begin the season. They were just pleased to see it in an actual National Football League game. LA will also have Case Keenum starting and Sean Mannion coming off the bench; two veterans who are primed to move the offense. He looked like he’d been playing 10 years. The cornerbacks seemed to have decent coverage and rookie Anthony Brown, notably, was the first team slot corner.

The Rams averaged 10.7 yards per catch.

He was two for two on his next drive, a 22-yard pass to Brice Butler followed by a flawless 32-yard strike to Terrance Williams for the touchdown. Last year Austin led them in catches with 51.

“He made a lot of little plays, he made some big plays”.

Speaking of that Bryant score, Prescott took advantage of the relatively safe play-calling by Scott Linehan early on, but he didn’t limit himself. Yet, nobody is saying Mannion is a superstar in the making, and the quarterback of the future.
