Sources tell ABC News that the FBI is investigating whether or not alleged knife attacker Wasil Farooqui was attempting to kill his victim in a possible ISIS-inspired beheading attempt.
Farooqui allegedly attack a man and woman at an apartment complex in Roanoke, according to WDBJ-7.
After the August knife attack, the Federal Bureau of Investigation launched a probe into a possible terror connection.
According to one source, 20-year-old Wasil Farooqui yelled “Allah Akbar” – Arabic for God is Great – during the stabbing. Farooqui and his two victims were hospitalized after the attack, though their conditions were not immediately clear.
According to the New York Daily News, police said the victims are “recovering well”.
Farooqui may have traveled to Turkey and tried getting into Syria, an ISIS recruiting area..
Farooqi was being held without bond at the Western Virginia Regional Jail. Adam Lee, special agent in Charge of the FBI’s Richmond Division, confirmed that the agency was investigating but did not provide additional details.
“While I can not discuss details of the investigation at this time, I do want to reassure the community that we are working to determine the nature of the incident”, he said in a statement.
