Meanwhile, Hickey is today preparing to spend his FOURTH night in the notorious Bangu prison in the city, alongside THG director Kevin Mallon, who is also being detained over the ticketing scandal.

Police are investigating all four council members over alleged illegal ticket sales.

“The OCI had an allocation of unused official tickets in their offices which had been made available for athletes’ families and friends”.

Three senior Olympic Council of Ireland officials, including one from Northern Ireland, have had their passports, phones and laptops seized in Brazil.

The officials were not arrested but were asked and agreed to attend police stations in the capital for questioning on Tuesday, the OCI said.

A Rio police official said: “We are continuing the investigation into the worldwide scheme of ticket scalping”.

A judge could decide to throw out the police case against him, or accepting it, decide to release him from prison while the investigation continues. Police have accused him of ticket touting and running a cartel, though they have not yet charged him. He has denied any wrongdoing.

“The committee discussed recent events in Rio regarding ticketing arrangements at the Games, which it takes very seriously”, it said.

Members also made a decision to appoint what it called a “three-person crisis management subcommittee to lead the council’s response to the recent events in Rio”.

It is believed the police are looking into the illegal sale of tickets for the 2016 Summer Olympics that had been allocated to Ireland.

At a press conference following his arrest, Brazilian police said they found evidence of emails and messages between Mr Hickey and Marcus Evans, who owns the hospitality company THG for which Mr Mallon works.
