A child was among four people injured in extra-alarm blaze early Tuesday in a South Chicago neighborhood apartment building. He says the department has its bomb and arson squad on the scene. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the fatality, but did not release additional information Tuesday morning.
The infant was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said.
A man also died in the morning blaze, but the medical examiner says he hasn’t been identified at this time.
“The fire was suspicious in nature”.
A man suspected of starting the fire reportedly had an argument with someone in the building, a police source told the Tribune.
Chicago Deputy Fire Commissioner Arriel Gray says the 4-year-old and 6-year-old girls were found dead in an apartment on the third floor.
The bodies of two children, whose ages are not yet known, were found in one apartment, fire officials said, and the body of an adult male was in another location.
The fire began around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in a three-story. A man was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition, and two more were taken to the hospital, one in fair condition, the other in good condition.
Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says a preliminary investigation indicates a person returned to the building after a domestic dispute and set fire to the rear porch. Officers were searching for a “person of interest wanted for questioning”, he said.
As of 4:45 a.m., the fire had been struck out and three people, including two children, were unaccounted for, fire officials said.
A woman who lives in the apartment building believes the fire was intentionally set.
He has no other details.

A witness, Clay Turner, told the Tribune that he saw the 3-month-old next to a man lying on the ground and screaming for help.
