Pep Guardiola enjoys ‘nice week’ after nine goals in two games

Argentine striker Sergio Aguero and Spanish forward Manuel Agudo Nolito scored two goals each to guide Manchester City to a 4-1 victory over Stoke City on Saturday that took them to the top of the English Premier League football tournament.

But it was still not enough to command the headlines as Aguero continued his flying start to the campaign with another double to take his tally to six in three games. Aguero’s second was a header from Kevin De Bruyne’s free kick.

“I spoke with Joe from the first moment we met”.

The Blues boss has revealed that Robles is “disappointed” at losing his No1 spot to new signing Maarten Stekelenburg, who was again impressive in yesterday’s 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns. It’s only been three games and I’m still settling in, but I feel fit and I just want to keep working with the team. I hope the sun will shine some more, but so far it has been good.

Batshuayi’s first goal since his pre-season move from Marseille sparked Chelsea into life and Costa, fortunate to still be on the pitch after controversially avoiding a second booking for diving, rifled in from a Cesc Fabregas assist in the 87th minute.

That followed an earlier foul by Shawcross on Nicolas Otamendi to hand City a penalty for their opening goal as referee Mike Dean twice penalised infringements following corners.

Nolito worked with the Catlaan coach when they were together at the Camp Nou earlier in their careers and he says the players are starting to get to grips with Guardiola’s tactics. “But that’s the way it goes – the City supporters will cheer him”.

Bojan Krkic also scored a penalty for Stoke, but Nolito made the game safe for City with tap-ins in the final minutes after coming on as a substitute. It is not always easy – the conditions at Stoke weren’t good and it was tough for us, but we did it and that is the important thing. It was a little bit unusual but I think Mark Hughes can say the same.

Manager Mark Hughes was left frustrated but believes City, where he spent a spell in charge from 2008-09, will be serious contenders to regain the Premier League title they last won in 2014.

The Catalan told a news conference: “He knows we are here to help him to play the way to create as many chances as possible and more chances to score goals”.
