Broncos’ QBs struggle in preseason audition vs. 49ers

Instead, they’ve allowed rookie No. 1 draft pick Paxton Lynch to creep into the picture, maybe as the team’s starting quarterback right out of the chute on September 8 when Denver hosts Carolina in a Super Bowl rematch.

“I squandered a great opportunity to separate myself and put the team in a bad situation”, Sanchez said after the game. “There’s no excuse for that, poor, poor quarterback play”.

Broncos: Rookie RB Devontae Booker, competing with Ronnie Hillman to be the primary backup to starter C.J. Anderson, ran nine times for 36 yards and also provided solid pass protection when asked to stay in and block on passing plays. Big plays in training camp have been mixed with interceptions and miscues. Regardless, Merilatt’s point suggests that perhaps the Broncos only real veteran, Mark Sanchez, should get the start. And then he threw a pick.

Siemian also led the offense on a 10-play, 86-yard touchdown drive to open the game.

“I’ll be on the field sooner or later”, Davis said.

Ultimately, Siemian is in a much better spot than he was a year ago, sitting behind Peyton Manning and former second-round pick Brock Osweiler. Siemian finished 10-of-14 for 74 yards and one interception. I believe that Chip Kelly had a rough going in Philadelphia, but I think the 49ers are a good match on paper.

Denver marched down the field on the first possession of the game, scoring a touchdown behind Siemian’s direction. The only blemish was a pick-six to 49ers safety Eric Reid.

The post 49ers notes: Anthony Davis’ cameo at right guard; Blaine Gabbert’s red-zone TDs; Aaron Lynch sits out; Charles Haley’s coaching embraced appeared first on 49ers Hot Read. He’s got to make Denver’s toughest decision, and he’s running out of time to do so.

Those were the second and third turnovers by Sanchez in just two quarters of work in the preseason, and given his proclivity for giveaways in his first seven seasons, only serve to reinforce the pre-existing perception of him: that he’s good enough to give you a chance, but sloppy enough with the football to fritter it away.

Siemian, Mark Sanchez and Paxton Lynch will all play against the Rams on Saturday, and Kubiak expects the repetitions to be equally distributed. Lynch completed 15-of-26 passes for 113 yards a 77.9 rating.

“I’m going to play the guy that I think is best for our team. I know we have to do our job a lot better to help those three, no matter who it is”. They’ve all done good stuff.

The Broncos’ quarterbacks made more mistakes last night than drunken USA swimmers at a gas station. “That’s the type of guy you want out there battling every day”. Obviously we’ve got some mistakes that we’ve got to get rid of, but we’ve made some mistakes in the past, and you find a way to overcome them.

“Our schedule is different because we are a Thursday opening football team”, Kubiak said. Yesterday, Kubiak – somewhat oddly – led the daily conversation with the media by saying that Siemian, while getting Saturday’s start, is battling a sore shoulder. But he refused to set a firm timetable.

“They are all going to play an equal amount”, Kubiak said. He is going up against a lot of talented linebackers and pass rushers trying to earn playing time within the Denver defense.
