The accident occurred at the Luna Park, at Cap d’Agde in France last August 7, French news site The Local reported.

A female passenger was treated for a broken leg, while the second passenger, identified as the woman’s boyfriend, suffered only bruises.

After the slingshot catapults its passengers into the air, the elastic snaps on the way down, violently jolting the cable as the crowd below gasps and cries out in shock.

They were left hanging on the ride for an hour before firefighters could rescue them and take them to hospital.

The video has been viewed more than half a million times since it was uploaded on Friday.

The director of the funfair told Midilibre, a Montpellier newspaper, that the accident was caused by a manufacturing defect in the elastic cable.

The ride has since been closed. Beyond that, nobody was seriously injured during the incident, but it was surely a frightening experience that may imbue the riders with a life-long fear of theme park attractions.
