Windows 10 Anniversary Update Breaks Webcams Globally

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) slammed Redmond tech conglomerate Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) of blatantly disregarding user choice and privacy with Windows 10 in an editorial. The online world has been filled with rumors and accusations ever since Microsoft released it past year.

OneClip will also be integrated with “working sets”, a feature Microsoft intends to implement in order to help users organise and locate the likes of documents, contacts and so forth under “sets” – and OneClip will boast further versatility in doing things such as storing and backing up your copied and pasted materials.

“The tactics Microsoft employed to get users of earlier versions of Windows to upgrade to Windows 10 went from annoying to downright malicious”, the firm’s Amul Kalia wrote.

The organisation called out Microsoft’s shady installing of an app that kick-started the virus-like “Get Windows 10” prompts, the tactic to make the operating system a recommended update so that it installed on machines alongside critical security patches, and the ridiculous ploy of changing the “X” in the download prompt to mean “yes please”.

“Microsoft should come clean with its user community”, says Kalia.

“Here’s a non-exhaustive list of data sent back: location data, text input, voice input, touch input, webpages you visit, and telemetry data regarding your general usage of your computer, including which programs you run and for how long”. Prior to update 1607, Windows 10 users could roll-back to a previous version within 30 days of it being installed.

However, Cortana actually has an opt-in system, where users are only asked to agree to share data when they actually click in the Cortana box.

In France, Microsoft has been threatened with legal action for collecting excessive amounts of user and bombarding customers with ads.

Microsoft released a major overhaul of Windows 10, known as the Anniversary Update, on 2 August.

Adjusting the notification feature removed a user’s right to choose when to update the operating system.

As it seems, the EFF is still pressuring Microsoft into clearing up the privacy issues for their users.
