Idris Elba has treated fans to a glimpse at how boxing has enhanced his life (and, more specifically, his physique).

Idris Elba has signed on for an all-new limited series from Discovery Networks International that will see the Golden Globe-winning actor and producer train to become a professional kickboxer.
Fighter (3x60min) will be co-produced by the MediaCityUK-based production company and Elba’s own company, Green Door Pictures, and will be broadcast on Discovery Networks International’s factual channels across more than 220 countries.
The actor has also been sharing videos showing him working on his skills in the ring. He will receive mentoring from former world champions, trainers and coaches, and travel the world to incorporate unorthodox training methods and regimens to increase his chances for the main event.
While the 43-year-old Elba is already coming to the Muay Thai table in an impressively jacked condition and claims to have been doing fitness kickboxing since his 20’s, this process will apparently showcase a grueling, character-building crucible caught on camera. Yeah, I’m training at the moment, I’m going to do a semi-professional fight soon so I’m training for that’.

Elba called the project the fulfillment of a “lifelong ambition”. “We’re absolutely thrilled that Idris has chosen Discovery to tell his story and journey in the right way”. Rick Murray is executive producer for Shine North. “But it’s watching how [Elba] tackles these obstacles, that makes this such a revealing and compelling series”.
