The final loss brought to an end a 22-game run for Murray, the longest undefeated stretch of his career which saw him win titles at the Queen’s Club, Wimbledon and the recently concluded 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

In the final, Murray will meet Marin Cilic who knocked off Grigor Dimitrov 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in match that ended past 1:30am.

Top seed Murray, gearing up for the U.S. Open in nine days, the last grand slam of the year, will face 2014 U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic of Croatia in the final.

The world number two won his fifth match over the Australian and stands 32-1 since losing to Novak Djokovic in May in Madrid.

Murray, meanwhile, is looking forward to finally getting some rest having flown directly from Rio to Cincinnati last Monday, mere hours after beating Juan Martin del Potro in a gruelling four-set gold-medal match.

“It all feels wonderful, I’m seeing all the hard work of the last few years paying off”, said Kerber, 28, who beat Williams in the final of the Australian Open but lost to her at the same stage at Wimbledon. I’ve needed it to be because I haven’t been feeling ideal. “It was not easy to play but I managed to win”, he said. I felt today that everything was good. “But it’s different come match time, so I did a little bit of studying”.

British tennis legend Andy Murray showed off his football skills during a semi-finals match at the Cincinnati Masters in OH and it could have seen him penalised.

Sizzling hot Andy Murray roared into his seventh successive final with a commanding victory over Canadian Milos Raonic at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati on Saturday.

“Im definitely going to try to enforce those things, because these are the moments that I can really work on those things, incorporate those things, and hopefully overcome those things”.

Murray leads Cilic by 11-2 in their FedEx ATP Head2Head singles matchup, with the Scot winning their last two meetings, most recently in the semifinal of the AEGON Championships this year.

“I’m really happy with my game today”.
