EAGLES CAMP: Alonso, Bradford and Ertz out vs. Colts

Ertz is expected to be ready to go for the regular season opener in Atlanta a month from today.

Ertz was having a strong camp prior to the surgery, and seemed to already be one of quarterback Sam Bradford’s favorite targets. But it will be Mark Sanchez starting the preseason opener Sunday against the Colts. “That’s my decision. I don’t think he’s real happy with my decision. I can’t wait to get out there and play against the Ravens”.

Ertz caught 58 passes for 702 yards and three touchdowns in 2014. Kelce missed four games before returning to the lineup.

Shorr-Parks was correct in his reporting that there was an injury.

Ertz is a prime emerging weapon for a receiving corps that has shed DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin the past two offseasons.

Chip Kelly did not reveal the medical plans for Ertz in his pre-practice press conference. Ertz spent the offseason hard at work, especially on improving his blocking, which, in Kelly’s run-based offense, has limited his playing time behind Celek. Apparently, that wasn’t the problem. “We’re just taking him along slowly”.

Kelly confirmed Ertz is going to miss at least a “couple of weeks” due to the injury and doesn’t expect him to see any game action during the exhibition slate, the team noted on Twitter.

As for Alonso, Kelly said the concussed inside linebacker is fine and that the team is in no hurry to get him back on the field.

Kelly said Ertz visited Friday with renowned Philadelphia-based Dr. William Myers, who has performed several sports hernia surgeries on players all across the NFL. “This is the time to get better”.
