Russian Federation banned from Paralympic Games after appeal failure
Though 270 Russian athletes were eventually allowed to compete in the games, it had been argued by many that there should be a blanket ban on the entire Russian Olympic team.

“A number of state-run companies have. signed contracts to sponsor the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, bringing in much-needed money to the organising committee, whilst the minister for justice and the minister for defence have informed us that the security forces now in place for the Olympics will remain for the Paralympics”, the IPC said in a statement last week.
In Tuesday’s statement, the court said it found the IPC decision was “proportionate” and did not violate any procedural rules.
The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games will be the largest edition of the Games yet, with an estimated 4,350 participating athletes.
Those findings built on evidence from earlier WADA reports and claims made BY other whistleblowers to investigative journalists that Russian Federation was allowing doping on an industrial scale. A three-person International Olympic Committee panel then had the final say.

IPC president Sir Philip Craven made a blistering attack when he announced the decision to suspend its Russian member committee in Rio, condemning the country’s “medals over morals” philosophy.
Russian sports minister, Vitaly Mutko, branded the decision unlawful and politically motivated.
The IPC also found evidence that samples were swapped during the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games, adding that it planned to reanalyse every Russian sample given at the event.
The Paralympics are going as intended, but face major budget cuts as the organising committee of Rio hasn’t increased enough to finance the occasion due to Brazil’s struggling economy and poor ticket sales.
The Deodoro Olympic Park has been “closed and dismantled”, meaning that equestrian, football 7-a-side and shooting will now work as three stand-alone venues with dedicated transport hubs.

Mr Hollingsworth said: “We will be taking what is undoubtedly our most competitive team ever to the most competitive Paralympic Games ever”. The athletes who didn’t travel to Atlanta will join the main squad in Rio on August 31.
