Frank Ocean Dazzles and Sets Himself Ablaze in ‘Nikes’ Video

In the early hours of this morning, around the time that his records take on that flawless melancholy playing on phone speakers, Ocean released another brand new song, “Nikes”, complete with a gorgeous, beautifully directed video. After four long years and many delays, the enigmatic singer has given the clamouring masses not one, but two new albums. We can all be forgiven for some skepticism on that count, but Something Is Happening and Ocean, finally, seems ready.

Musicians like James Blake, Jonny Greenwood, Sampha, and Jazmine Sullivan contributed to Frank Ocean’s surprise album, “Endless”, which arrived last night with an accompanying film.

“Blonde” is Ocean’s second studio album and is his follow-up to his successful 2012 debut album “Channel Orange”.

Meanwhile, Frank’s producer Malay recently insisted the delay on his new music was because “art can not be rushed”. It showcases several splotchy date stamps, including a blurred out date in July 2016, which had fans convinced the album was dropping at the end of the month-it didn’t. “Anything that I can do to help him, I will”. Plenty of musicians roll around in Bentleys and Lamborghinis; Frank is our dude because he keeps things way more interesting. The same day the video was posted, The New York Times reported that Boys Don’t Cry was due the following Friday exclusively on Apple Music, but it never dropped.

Frank Ocean on “Blonde”: “I had the time of my life making all of this”.

I haven’t watched the rest of Endless yet but I will just to scope out the cars in it. Keeping fans in the dark and teasing them only with eccentric, confounding parts of a larger whole is certainly one way to hijack their short-span attention.

The 17-track album features appearances from Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar and Andre 3000.
