Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik arrived in Delhi from Rio de Janeiro to a grand welcome early on Wednesday morning.
With the deployment of ministers for reception at the Delhi airport and tents over 100 acres of open land in Mokhra village of Rohtak district, the Haryana government has rolled out the red carpet for Sakshi Malik, the wrestler who fetched the country a bronze medal at Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
“Poore Hindustan ne mera saath diya hai, main sab ko thank you kehna chahti hun (The whole country has supported me, I want to thank everyone for it)”, Malik said on Wednesday.
Sakshi was accompanied by Haryanas Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij on her flight back home and as many as five Haryana ministers were there to welcome her. I was preparing for this for the last 12 years, she said. Sakshi’s father Sukhbir Malik told the media on Tuesday that villagers had planned a huge reception en route Bahadurgarh and Rohtak from Delhi. Chief Minister Manohar Lal would felicitate her at a function and a cheque of cash award Rs 2.5 crore would be handed over to her while her coach would be given Rs 10 lakh cash award.
