Telangana Governor felicitates Sindhu, Gopichand

A day after being felicitated by Telangana government, Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu was on Tuesday accorded a rousing welcome by the Andhra Pradesh government for her stupendous performance at the just-concluded Rio Olympics 2016.

Participating in a grand felicitation organised by the State government for Rio Olympics silver medallist P.V. Sindhu and her mentor Gopichand here, Mr. Naidu promised to develop sports infrastructure of global standards at Amaravati, near Vijayawada.

Telangana chief minister KChandrashekhar Rao also announced an award of Rs 1 crore for the Pullela Gopichand badminton academy. The interesting incident where AP CM turned badminton player and played the game for few minutes, occurred at Olympics Silver Medal victor PV Sindhu’s felicitation programme held in Vijayawada on Tuesday.

Both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, born out of a bifurcation two years ago, claim that 21-year-old Sindhu belongs to them and so the star athlete has to participate in double celebrations.

Since her major accomplishment, Sindhu has been in the headlines as she became the first woman from the nation to have won a silver medal in Olympics.

Sindhu has not revealed if she will take up the job offer.

Rao also congratulated Sindhu’s parents – P V Ramana and P Vijaya, a release from CMO said.

While the AP government has announced a Rs 50 lakh cash prize for Gopichand, Telangana is giving him Rs 1 crore. Her current coach Gopi is good.

“I’m happy with Srikanth Kidambi for giving his heart out and giving his best and Sindhu for the way she has fought”.

Gopichand thanked the help that the Governor had extended during a crucial time when he was setting up the academy.

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali was on Monday trolled on social micro-blogging site Twitter for his remark on PV Sindhu and Pullela Gopichand.
