Jacksonville among worst cities for pet lovers

The financial website Wallethub ranked Cincinnati as the number one city for pet lovers. In 2014, almost 80 million homes had either a cat or dog.

WalletHub conducted the study to help “current and aspiring pet parents enjoy the company of their furry friends without breaking the bank”. And within the top 16 on the overall list, our fair city scored highest in the Outdoor Environment and Amusement category.

“It’s not a surprise that Jersey City and New York City rank as some of the least affordable places for veterinary care and pet services”, said Irene Borngraeber, executive director of the Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City. The rankings consisted of 100 cities across the country.

Dog insurance premiums are two times higher in New York than in Detroit. With more than 60 pet-friendly hotels, 200-plus dog-friendly restaurants and the highest number of vets per capita in the state, it’s clear to see that our domestic companions are a huge part of the Austin lifestyle.

Scottsdale, Ariz., has 19 times more animal shelters per 100,000 residents than Lexington, Ky.

The rankings of 100 U.S. cities lists Cincinnati, St. Louis, and Colorado Springs, Colo., ahead of Tampa.
