Clinton Foundation donors got face time with her at State

On Sunday, the foundation announced it would no longer accept foreign donations if Clinton is elected and that the group is prepared to hand off programs to other charity organizations.

The e-mails, along with a judge’s order Monday for the State Department to expedite its review of nearly 15,000 previously undisclosed documents the Federal Bureau of Investigation recovered from Clinton’s private e-mail servers, represent a continuing political headache for the Democratic presidential nominee with fewer than 80 days until the election.

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton leads Republican rival Donald Trump by 12 percentage points among likely voters, her strongest showing this month, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll.

Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon did not respond to the AP’s questions about Clinton transition plans regarding ethics, but said in a statement Tuesday the standard set by the Clinton Foundation’s ethics restrictions was “unprecedented, even if it may never satisfy some critics”. She has released 55,000 pages of emails with no scandal found.

Clinton deleted 30,000 emails prior to turning over the other half to the State Department in 2014, arguing that they were personal correspondences.

Obama claims this is due to a “a function of schedule”, and not because of the current controversy involving the Clinton Foundation.

Bill Clinton said much of the foundation’s global activities would be transitioned to other organizations to continue that type of work.

According to Powell, Clinton had been using her server for at least a year before the two discussed how he had managed his email.

The latest batch of e-mails released by Judicial Watch signaled more potential trouble.

The State Department said last week it was not aware of any actions taken by Clinton that were influenced by the Clinton Foundation. The conservative group said the documents include e-mail exchanges not previously turned over to the State Department. She also pointed to the presidential library and Clinton center in Little Rock, Ark. Richard Painter, a former ethics adviser to President George W. Bush and now a University of Minnesota law school professor, said Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton should remove themselves completely from foundation leadership roles, but he added that potential conflicts would shadow any policy decision affecting past donors.

His new campaign CEO, Stephen Bannon, has had deep involvement in the effort to cast doubt on the Hillary and Bill Clinton’s finances.

As if these developments weren’t problematical enough, former Secretary of State Colin Powell last weekend denied Clinton’s claim that he advised her to use a private server, as he had done, saying, “Her people are trying to pin it on me”. “We are not sure what additional materials the Justice Department may have located, but if the State Department determines any of them to be work-related, then obviously we support those documents being released publicly as well”. State Department lawyers on Monday indicated that it could begin releasing documents weekly as soon as October 14.

“The question is going to be what quantity, and how long does it take them to produce”, he said.

“Unless Boasberg gets really upset with them, I anticipate October 14 will be the first production”, said Moss.
