WR Nelson returns to practice

But he needs more support from Lacy, Nelson and his offensive line.

The most likely scenario for Green Bay is to have Rodgers and Nelson on the field together in a game for the first time in more than a year when the Packers play their season opener September 11 at the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“Obviously, we’ll take this week’s practice and see how everything goes, and we’ll continue to move forward”, Nelson said.

The Pro Bowler was activated from the physically unable to perform list Wednesday and will only run individual drills with QB Aaron Rodgers initially.

After keeping his nose in the playbook and paying close attention to the tendencies of defensive backs as he watched practice while he was sidelined, Nelson doesn’t feel the missed time on the field will be detrimental. “I’m not sure how long he wants me to play, but it’ll be good to get out there and get some work with the guys”.

Before then, the Packers finish their preseason schedule with road games against the San Francisco 49ers on Friday and the Kansas City Chiefs on September 1.

“It’s been big”, Adams said about Nelson’s return.

PATRIOTS AILING: For months the biggest question facing the New England Patriots was whether Tom Brady would be on the field for the start of the 2016 regular season.

That said, Rodgers doesn’t see a ton of benefit to preseason game snaps in his ninth year as a starting quarterback, and he doesn’t expect to play next week in the finale in Kansas City. While practice reps are valuable, Rodgers would like his teammates to get used to his in-game speed.

Even Nelson isn’t expecting too much right away, a year after he suffered the ACL injury in a preseason game. Lewis, Vollmer and Mason were all absent from the practice field on Monday. Running back Eddie Lacy also was expected to produce more than before, and he himself had a subpar season.

Jones ran for 490 yards and three touchdowns and caught another touchdown in 13 games as a rookie last season before going down with a hip injury.

Another note from Tuesday’s training camp practice was the surprise of seeing 1st round pick Kenny Clark sitting out of practice.

“I think it’s important to stay focused on the fact that Jordy’s going to practice Monday for the first time”, McCarthy said.

Hali had surgery in the offseason on his balky knees, which forced him to miss almost every practice late last season.
