Since the beginning of the year, there have been more than 4,900 wildfires in California that have torched over 419,000 acres.

Known as the Spokane Complex Fire, the Hart Road Fire and the Deep North Fire, the blazes have collectively burned 12,000 acres or about 18 square miles and are completely out of control.

Wildfires in the Spokane area have burned more than a dozen homes and forced evacuations.

California has seen some big fires this year, and the second-largest USA fire is now the Soberanes, just north of Big Sur.

The fire made a 5-mile run Monday, forcing the closure of a 10-mile stretch of road that leads into Yellowstone’s South Entrance. The wildfire’s flames burned to within three miles of the iconic Hearst Castle, which was reportedly the inspiration for Xanadu in George Welle’s 1941 film “Citizen Kane”.

It was another successful night in the battle against a massive wildfire in Southern California that has destroyed at least 96 homes.

“As the Chimney fire spreads at an accelerated pace, there are extremely perilous safety conditions for people and property in the county, and it’s become harder to mitigate the fire, despite firefighters’ best efforts”, said County Emergency Services Manager Ron Alsop.

Finney said that firefighters should be intentionally setting more so-called prescribed fires to burn off excess vegetation, or simply let some natural fires burn longer.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday ordered the evacuations east of Idaho Falls but the number of residents told to leave isn’t clear. A nearby fire is threatening some 1,900 structures in San Luis Obispo and Monterey counties with hundreds of people ordered to evacuate their homes.

The Chimney fire has burned 37,101 and is now threatening several gated communities in the Nacimiento Lake area. Wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour were expected to blow across the dry, hot terrain, stoking extreme fire behavior.

Meanwhile, a 58-square-mile fire that destroyed 105 homes in Southern California was nearly entirely contained and all evacuation orders were lifted.

Fire spokesman Brad Pitassi says evacuation orders for Wrightwood went from mandatory to advisory Saturday afternoon.

More than 400 homes remained threatened by the fire.

Officials are urging any residents who still have not evacuated the area to do so immediately due to increasing fire activity.

MaryEllen Fitzgerald of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest said Tuesday the fire near the Utah-Idaho state line is within one-fourth of a mile of the Beaver Mountain Ski Resort, which is on pre-evacuation notice.

Winds are expected to increase out of the south to southwest at 10 miles per hour with gusts up to 20 miles per hour. The cause of this fire is now under official investigation, authorities report.
