Top Indian Government Officials Travel to Kashmir to Defuse Unrest
As the Kashmir Valley continues to see unprecedented turbulence for well over a month now, home minister Rajnath Singh along with his top officials, including home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi, will visit the state on Wednesday, during which he will chair a crucial meeting of the Srinagar-based Unified Command. They said his meetings in Srinagar had not been finalized as yet.

Singh will meet civil society members at Srinagar’s Nehru Guest House but no meetings with separatist leaders have been scheduled. “The Home Ministry will take all steps to strengthen NSG”, he said, noting countries across the globe are facing the scourge of terrorism.
This is Singh’s second visit in a month to strife-torn Kashmir that has been on the boil following the July 8 killing of insurgent leader Burhan Wani. Thousands of civilians and security personnel have been injured. At least 68 people have been killed in the violence in Kashmir.
The Minister’s visit to Kashmir comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interaction with a delegation of opposition parties led by former state chief minister Omar Abdullah in the national capital on Monday.
The teenager was removed to a hospital where he succumbed, the officer said. They have been pressing the government for a “political solution” to the ongoing unrest.
The home minister was conveyed that there has been improvement in situation on the ground, there is no scarcity of essential commodities and health services are functioning, people familiar with the matter said. Several prominent civil society groups and trader bodies had chose to boycott the visit of the Union Home Minister. “Those who believe in Kashmiriyat, Insaniyat and Jamhooriyat are welcome.” the HM tweeted.

Sources said on one hand the central government rushed 26 more security companies to the region to deal with violent outburst but and on other hand, the Modi government reiterates giving a healing touch to Kashmiri people.
