Suspended running back Karlos Williams visits with Jets

Former Bills running back Karlos Williams visited the Jets on Tuesday, a source confirmed to Newsday, but it appears nothing is imminent.

Buffalo sent Williams packing after he arrived to camp out of shape and had trouble losing the weight.

Still, it was a surprising move because he was the team’s No. 2 back previous year and showed a lot of promise. Williams, who rushed for 517 yards as a rookie, fell out of favor with Rex Ryan & Co. after ballooning to 261 pounds this summer. He also had just under 100 receiving yards and two more scores. The Bills released him a few days ago, but he cleared waivers and can therefore be signed to a low-level deal.

Williams is undeniably a talented player, and he made a number of big plays as a rookie for the Bills last season. They managed to hold him to 48 yards on 13 carries over the two games, but he had a crucial touchdown in each game. Williams is suspended for the first four weeks of the season, so he’d only face-off against the Bills once if he were to join the Jets. They do have Khiry Robinson on the roster, recovering from a broken leg, and signed Antone Smith, formerly with the Atlanta Falcons, just last week.
