‘This Is How We Do It’ for James Corden’s birthday

If it’s not his Carpool Karaoke segments that get people talking then it’s his stand alone pieces and brilliant interviews with some of the biggest celebrities in the world.

Corden has a stage and musical background and demonstrates that he’s well able to sing here; it’s worth a listen, but you’ll probably know straight away whether or not this version is your cup of tea. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin joked that if Prince had joined their band, it would have been the greatest band of all-time, but he thinks the Purple One probably made the right decision by going solo.

Corden’s rainy London drive with the Grammy-winning singer is Carpool Karaoke’s YouTube queen with almost 90 million views. “No matter what different situation, no matter what comes up against you, you do the best you can do, and you never give up”. More importantly, how long until we get footage of Corden’s old band?

Host James Corden hits up famous singers for a drive and, lo and behold, he just so happens to have the artist’s songs on the radio.

Later, James informs Meat Loaf that he, too, is in a band and asks for advice.

Following the performance, Coldplay surprised Corden, whose birthday is August 22nd, by having a cake brought out from backstage and leading a stadium-wide sing-along of “Happy Birthday to You”. During the ride, Martin whipped out a portable keyboard for an impromptu performance of “Us Against the World”. The actor/musician confided that press tours make him want to bang his head against a table-and provided a demonstration. And of course, there was a “Jesus Take The Wheel” joke thrown in during the drive. “But instead he chose to forge his own path”, he said.

In the clip, Montell tells James he heard he was a fan of his hit song This Is How We Do It, before he appeared on the show to sing a full version of the track.
