Federer and Nadal to team up in Laver Cup

Roger Federer hopes to recover from the knee problem that brought an early end to his 2016 season in time for him to play at the Australian Open. But in some ways it ended up being a simple decision.

Federer had an arthroscopic procedure on the knee in February to fix torn cartilage, then later missed the French Open because of a bad back.

Rafael Nadal is to make his first-ever appearance at the Brisbane International next January after coming to a deal with the tournament organizers.

“It’s been an interesting year to say the least”, he added. I’ve learned a lot from this year.

“I’m doing well, I’ve been training as much as i possibly could a to re-strengthen my quad my body to keep it in shape so when i head back into the gym for full on fitness in the next couple of months that I’m ready for it”.

Nadal’s appearance next January will undoubtedly be a huge draw for the tournament, especially with Roger Federer not playing at the event in 2017; the Swiss star, who has appeared in Brisbane the past three years, will instead play in the Hopman Cup.

Fourteen-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal has changed his schedule for the 2017 season to start Australia at the Brisbane International tournament.

Roger Federer appears alongside Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe in NY on Thursday to announce the new Laver Cup event.

However, organisers of the Brisbane event have enticed the 14-time Grand slam victor to their tournament next year.
