Ohio sheriff indicted on 43 counts, including 38 felonies
After Overmyer collected the pills from Bellevue police, a detective with the department told Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office Detective Capt. Sean O’Connell, who then began to review the collected boxes that had been placed in evidence at the sheriff’s office.

Despite the ongoing investigation, Sandusky County voters in March chose Sheriff Overmyer by 61 percent to 39 percent over Clyde Police Chief Bruce Gower in the Republican primary election.
Visiting Judge Patricia Cosgrove is to hear the case.
The arraignment was held in the court’s temporary location at Terra State Community College while the courthouse is undergoing renovation. He also was charged with five counts of filing false financial disclosure reports, a misdemeanor charge.
According to Erie County, the sheriff’s office arrested Overmyer and he was booked in the Erie County Jail on August 23. The office’s chief deputy is now running the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, she said. “This is the fist time we had a sitting sheriff in our facility but everyone is treated the same here”.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation had been investigating Overmyer since September 2015. “The scope of the investigation quickly expanded into other allegations of wrongdoing”.
“Stierwalt requested the investigation after local police chiefs in Sandusky County expressed concerns regarding alleged unusual behavior by Overmyer in prescription drug disposal drop box collections”, the release states.

Overmyer’s charges are connected to improper use and tampering with records concerning his office’s Futherance of Justice funds. They also say he was deceiving doctors and pharmacists to obtain pain medications such as Percocet, and that he misused money for the department and altered records. Delaware County Prosecutor Carol Hamilton O’Brien is the special prosecutor, the release states.
