Monolith Movie in the Works at Lionsgate
As part of Hollywood’s campaign to burn through every available comic book property inside of a decade, Lionsgate has turned its attention to Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti’s mid-aughts graphic novel The Monolith.

It’s also a big gig for Barnett Brettler, who is writing the script based on the comic books. The Monolith will be a “modern retelling” of the golem legends, focusing on a magical creature discovered by Alice Cohen, an ex-junkie who inherits a house in Brooklyn from her dead grandmother. Hopefully, this project won’t prove to be too massive and unwieldy and Brettler and Wilson.
In the director’s chair is Dave Wilson, the creative director of Deadpool director Tim Miller’s production company, Blur Studio.
The story lasted 12 issues and was published by DC Comics in 2004 and 2005, but later moved over to Image Comics.
Wilson was previously involved in the making of “Avengers: Age of Ultron”. Erwin Stoff (13 Hours, Burnt) is producing. As for Bettler, his credits included “Allan Quartermain” and the upcoming adaptation will be his first major assignment.

He has worked on a lot of video games and trailers, including “Mass Effect 2” and “Star Wars: The Old Republic”.
