Watch Volvo’s “Iron Knight” Break Two Truck World Speed Records
(At time of publication the FIA is still reviewing the data.) In addition to bagging the 1000-meter main event, Volvo also set a record for the 500-meter (0.31 mile) distance with a time of 13.71 seconds. It is able to produce 2,400 hp (1,790 kW) and 6,000 Nm (4,425 lb.ft) of torque, with a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time of just 4.6 seconds.

Some trucks are built for hauling loads of cargo across continents.
What you see before you is the Iron Knight whose main goal is break speed records. What’s NOT significantly modified, however, is Volvo’s I-Shift Dual Clutch transmission. At the time of publication, the records are being reviewed by the FIA, the worldwide motor sport association.
This truck may look like a Volvo model you might see on European roads, but there are a lot of one-off parts to accomplish speed records.
“Specialists from several Volvo Trucks departments worked together to develop a truck with unsurpassed performance”, explains Olof Johansson, a technician at Volvo Trucks.
“Apart from Volvo Trucks’ powertrain, we’ve hand-built the truck from the ground up. The fact that we succeeded in securing not just one record but two is absolutely fantastic”, says Olof Johansson, a technician at Volvo Trucks.
Behind the wheel of The Iron Knight was Boije Ovebrink, who has more than 30 years’ experience of both auto and truck racing.
“Volvo Trucks’ The Iron Knight can be summarised in one single word: perfection”.
