VAMPIRE DIARIES’s Todd Lasance Cast as SAVITAR For CW’s THE FLASH
Those reports are incorrect. And since Savitar doesn’t traditionally wear a Flash-like costume in the comics, but The Rival does, it’s probably safe to say that Lasance is under that mask in the July set photos. Savitar was previously named by the network as one of two “big bads” along with Doctor Alchemy for the upcoming season, but Lasance’s casting is new.

The Flash Season 3 already raised a multiverse of questions by its big “Flashpoint” twist, not the least of which was another speedster glimpsed on set against Wally West. “I think the Hindu word for Savitar means God of Speed; he’s all about speed”. He could also be another iteration of The Reverse Flash, known as Daniel West. Flashpoint presents Central City with an alternate timeline, which makes it extremely hard to identify a pattern behind the casting.
In the comics, Savitar was originally a Cold War pilot for a third-world nation. Savitar developed the ability to create a force field, regenerate and transfer speed to other objects and people. He will appear in a recurring role as “The Rival”, enemy speedster of The Flash of Earth-2, Jay Garrick.

“The Flash” executive producer Greg Berlanti has dismissed reports claiming that “The Vampire Diaries” star Todd Lasance was cast as speedster villain Savitar in Season 3. Though we weren’t certain about this character’s identity at the time, it was recently revealed that Barry Allen and co. would be going up against DC villain Savitar on season 3 of The CW series.
