Director Doug Liman Ditches X-Men Spin-off Gambit For DC’s Dark Universe
Fox’s Marvel film franchise has suffered a new setback.

Warner Bros.is moving forward with an adaptation of “Dark Universe” – a.k.a., Justice League Dark, Variety reports.
Also interesting to note is that “Justice League Dark” already has a movie scheduled for release – specifically an animated movie, which was just revealed in June and is already set for a fall premiere. Early on del Toro was actually supposed to direct the upcoming film, but his schedule did not allow for it to be a priority.
Justice League Dark – also known as Dark Universe – centers around a team of DC heroes that are largely supernatural. Liman is the second director to drop out of that film, with Rupert Wyatt departing before him.

Scott Rudin is on board to produce the project and Michael Gilio will write the script. And, as so often happens with the director’s projects, pre-production delays meant that the film had to be scrapped as he moved on to other, more time-sensitive projects. That said, Fox is still planning on moving forward with the film and is now looking for a replacement director, according to The Hollywood Reporter. For those who don’t know much about Justice League Dark, it’s like an alternate version of the traditional Justice League, consisting of superheroes such as Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman and Green Lantern. Del Toro had the flawless aesthetic for Justice League Dark, but Liman is more of a large-scale action director of things like Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Edge of Tomorrow – good films in their own right, but certainly a different tone than one would expect for a group of paranormal heroes.
