Tesla extends electric vehicle range to over 300 miles

The company announced Tuesday that a new battery will allow its Model S to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds – making it the fastest production vehicle in the world. It said they were limited run, million dollar vehicles that were small two seaters with little luggage space.

Competition is mounting in the electric auto space as more automakers are racing to release vehicles with longer ranges. “By developing vehicles with longer range batteries, Tesla is moving the ball forward not just for itself but the entire [electric vehicle] industry”.

The Tesla Model S P90D with Ludicrous mode is now the quickest vehicle on the market thanks to a new battery upgrade, CEO Elon Musk announced on a call with journalists Tuesday. The top range of the previous Model S was 294 miles. The new battery also is available on the Model X SUV.

Tesla Motors Inc on Tuesday unveiled speedy new model electric cars capable of traveling more than 483km before needing to be recharged. Model X P100D with Ludicrous mode accelerates to 60 mph in 2.9* seconds and travels up to 289 miles EPA estimated and 542 km European Union on a single charge. It also has all-wheel drive and is electrically powered.

Model S and Model X are engineered to be the safest cars on the road and to have the highest ratings from NHTSA. And every Tesla will improve over time with free over the air upgrades. Those who ordered a P90D Ludicrous but haven’t received it yet can upgrade for $10,000.

Existing P90D owners can upgrade to a 100 kWh pack, but it will cost $20,000, as their used 90 kWh pack will have to be recycled.

The Model S P100D will start at $134,500, and the Model X 100D will start at $135,500.
