Twenty-one year-old Mia, from Wirksworth was at the Shelley’s Backpackers hostel in Home Hill, Queensland, when the incident took place at 11.15pm local time last night.
“Mia was a attractive soul who was always looking out for people”.
The victim’s mother, Rosie Ayliffe, said her daughter “would not want to be the reason for any hostilities caused by any misinterpretation of events”.
Investigators believe no other people were involved in the incident. She wanted to get a sponsorship in the Gold Coast or Melbourne.
“R.I.P. Mia.You were such a joyful.attractive girl”.
Slain British backpacker Mia Ayliffe-Chung hated having to leave the Gold Coast to work on farms in Queensland’s rural north, according to her former Australian boyfriend Jamison Stead. He said: “She had a pet dog when she was younger and I used to see her on the field”.
“It’s a bit unbelievable really – she was just a schoolgirl when I knew her. My heart goes out to her and her family”. It’s something you hear about but never think that it would happen to someone you were close to.
Officers have been in contact with British consular staff and their high commissioner in Australia has travelled to Townsville.
Rachel McVeigh, curriculum leader for education and childcare at the college, said: “Mia had a zest for life and was free-spirited, with a keen desire to travel”.
Police are investigating if a romantic obsession is behind the fatal stabbing of a British backpacker in Home Hill, Queensland, killing one and injuring another. She was posting photos to social media to keep her friends and family updated about her activities.
Speaking of Mr Jackson, Samantha Harrison wrote on Facebook: “Tom Jackson was a very close friend and one of the most incredible people I have ever met”.
“Now Tom I need you too stay strong and beat this for yourself and all of your friends and family who love you”.
His parents declined to speak from their home in Congleton, Cheshire.
He said: “Initial inquiries indicate that comments which may be construed as being of an extremist nature were made by the alleged offender”.
It was initially feared the attack could have been an act of extremism, with the 29 year old Frenchman shouting “allahu akbar” during the attack and arrest.
Ayad, who had been in Australia on a temporary visa since March, allegedly told fellow hostel guests he planned to marry Ayliffe-Chung in the days before the attack.
It will be alleged this was the second time Ayad lashed out at police, with body-worn cameras showing the gruesome scene that confronted the first responders and a blood covered Ayad mumbling “Allahu Akbar”.

Australian Federal Police now say they are confident that there is no terrorism link to the stabbing.
