Fugitive of the Week — Salem Bank Robber Caught in Boston Wednesday

Bedford, Mass. police worked with Boston police, SWAT, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation bank robbery task force to arrest a man who issuspected of robbing Salem, N.H., bank before hitting another in Bedford, Mass., days later.

According to Boston Police, investigators from the Fugitive Unit learned on Tuesday night that Gingras was armed and unsafe and possibly in the area.

Gingras did not display a weapon in either heist, but Boston police say he displayed an AK-47 style rifle while facing off with a SWAT team at 9 Orton-Moratta Way in South Boston.

He was also accused of an unarmed robbery Monday at a Bedford, Mass., bank, according to police there, who said they worked with authorities in Boston to make the arrest.

The robbery in Bedford took place at a Citizens Bank in a Stop and Shop on Great Road.

A SWAT team moved in to arrest Gingras about 9:15 p.m. He allegedly tried to jump out of a window before barricading himself inside the residence.

Bedford police said Gingras was arrested about 2:41 a.m. He will face also face extradition to New Hampshire, police said.

Police were unable to negotiate with Gingras and eventually forced their way into the building and placed him under arrest.

Police recovered a.762 caliber rifle and ammunition after a five-hour-long standoff with a Bedford bank robbery suspect.

“Violent crime and robberies are not common in Bedford, but when they occur, the men and women of the Bedford Police Department are well-prepared”, Bedford Police Chief Robert Bongiorno said in a statement.
