Chelsea: I don’t understand Diego Costa criticism, says Antonio Conte

As Chelsea’s equalising goal went in ten minutes from the end at Vicarage Road, Antonio Conte, the more volatile of two demonstrative Italian managers on the touchline, raced towards his team, demanding that they return immediately to their own half and go after a victor.

Diego Costa completed the Chelsea comeback on 87 minutes when he latched onto a Cesc Fabregas through ball, having also secured all three points for Conte at home to West Ham a week ago when he capitalised on a Batshuayi flick on.

And it was left to Costa to supply the late euphoria, just as he did in the opening weekend win over West Ham, as the Spain worldwide latched onto a wonderful Cesc Fabregas pass to slot home.

But Walter Mazzarri would be denied a first win as Watford boss as Conte threw on Victor Moses, Fabregas and Batshuayi – with the latter needing just seven minutes to make an impact.

“We played a good second half and we scored two great goals – at the end I think we deserved to win”. The manager must choose the starting XI and then try to find the right solution during the game.

Mazzarri was pleased with the way they played, but disappointed at what he felt were two errors for the goals. “We are working very hard and will continue to work very hard”.

“Also, I like always to tell the truth”.

In the 55th minute, Capoue put Watford 1-0 ahead as he chests a cross from the right and volleyed a left-foot strike into the top corner.

“We all know Cesc’s quality, he’s a great player but it’s important to understand that we are at the beginning of the season and I am looking for the right balance”.

And the Italian admits he will struggle to sleep after blaming his own side for gifting Chelsea their goals. We can hold our heads high.

A change in formation helped the Blues ramp up the pressure on their hosts and dominate the final 20 minutes, and two defensive lapses helped them clutch victory from the jaws of defeat.

“I’m very disappointed. At the moment, what counts is we have grown as a team and improved compared to last week”.
