Since July’s San Diego Comic Con, we’ve known that Oscar-winning “Room” actress Brie Larson will take the title role in ‘Captain Marvel, ‘ the first female superhero solo movie from the kings of the comic book movie – but a director has yet to be decided upon.

Captain Marvel will tell of Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is infused with that of the alien race the Kree, granting her superhuman flight, strength, speed, and energy blasts.

But the studio won’t make a decision anytime soon, THR notes, since the movie has a release date of March 2019. According to the report, Marvel will be giving a treatment and documents to the directors, and they will prepare a detailed presentation for Captain Marvel.

The three contenders were whittled from a shortlist of about a handful of contenders, which also included Jennifer Kent, the helmer of the indie horror hit The Babadook, and Jennifer Yuh, the director of Kung Fu Panda 2.

All three have impressive backgrounds.

Caro is the director fo the Academy Award-nominated 2002 film Whale Rider. By contrast, Lesli Linka Glatter hails more from the world of television, with a prolific resume that includes popular series such as True Blood, The Newsroom, and Homeland. In addition to her TV credits, she also was behind the lens for short film Tales of Meeting and Parting.

Finally, Scafaria made her name as the screenwriter of “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, ‘ and has since written and directed “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World” with Steve Carrell and Keira Knightley, and ‘The Meddler” with Susan Sarandon and Rose Byrne.
