State of emergency in Ferguson extended at least 24 hours
The St. Louis County executive declared a state of emergency Monday, a move that gave Belmar – instead of interim Ferguson Police Chief Andre Anderson – control of security.

“I want to emphasise local law enforcement will remain vigilant, and officers are prepared to respond swiftly if necessary”.
The move follows recent unrest in Ferguson following the 1st anniversary of the shooting death of Michael Brown, an unarmed black man by a white police officer.
Brown’s death put Ferguson on the worldwide map as the birthplace of the Black Lives Matter movement.
A post on Todd Bakula’s Facebook page says he decided to spend extra money he earned while working during protests in Ferguson on his wife. But violence like that in Ferguson only detracts from the quest to stop police shootings. Stenger’s declaration of emergency, issued Monday, had placed Jon Belmar, St. Louis County’s police chief, in charge of emergency operations in the city of about 21,000 people. Violence erupted on Sunday night and police shot and critically wounded another black 18-year-old.

Mostly peaceful protests began anew last weekend in Ferguson, which became a focal point of national attention after Brown was shot by officer Darren Wilson last August.
