Enhancement with Harley Davidson’s new Milwaukee-Eight

Equipped with the new Milwaukee-Eight engine and new front and rear suspension, Harley-Davidson’s 2017 Touring motorcycles like this Street Glide Special model are the company’s most powerful, most responsive and most comfortable Touring motorcycles ever. Named as Milwaukee-Eight, the engine has been unveiled in two derivatives namely 107 and 114, where the numbers specify the displacement in cubic inches.

Power. Comfort. Control. The new Milwaukee-Eight™ engine is a ground-up design that combines the classic look, sound and feel of Harley-Davidson® Big Twin engines with improvements in performance, comfort and control.

As one of the ninth “Big Twin” engine, the new Harley Davidson motor was officially presented a few weeks ago.

All Milwaukee-Eight powered models are fitted with an Assist and Slip Clutch with improved hydraulic actuation that reduces clutch lever effort by 7 percent.

Retaining the classic 45-degree V-Twin cylinder angle, the Milwaukee-Eight engine produces 10 percent more torque than previous year models and features four-valve cylinder heads that offer 50 percent more intake and exhaust flow capacity.

Speaking about the new engine, Scott Miller, Harley-Davidson Vice-President of Styling and Product Development Strategy, said, “Riders asked us to create a new engine designed to enhance their motorcycle touring experience in every way”. The Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight engine has been tuned to offer better throttle response and smother power delivery while maintaining the iconic exhaust note.

All in all, the new Milwaukee Eight represents a serious amount of investment for H-D, and it hopes the current evolution of its V-Twin will appeal to both the traditionalist Harley rider, while also drawing in a new breed of customer. New emulsion-technology rear shock absorbers offer 15 to 30 percent more pre-load adjustment than previous standard Touring shocks, with a single knob to hydraulically adjust pre-load. The new suspension is equipped with a 49mm fork with dual bending fork technology. Those same voices also demanded that we stay true to our legacy and respect the defining elements of a Harley-Davidson V-Twin.

The Milwaukee-Eight 107 (1750cc) with oil-cooled cylinder heads will be seen in Street Glide/ Street Glide Special, Road Glide/ Road Glide Specials, Electra Glide Ultra Classic, Road King and Free wheelers Trike models. These displacements will be seen in the 2017 touring and trike models. Under the promise of keeping it to ourselves, the motorcycle media were given hints about a month ago of the news-breaking details being released today.
